The holidays are a stressful time. Between planning meals, balancing work and school schedules, and finding the perfect gift for Aunt Linda, we are inundated with endless tasks. Decorating your home may be another daunting task you aren’t prepared for. Never fear! We have some quick and easy tips to make your home into an inviting space perfect for holiday entertaining!
Use Traditional Tree Decorations
Those cute ornaments and string lights don’t just have to adorn the branches of your tree! By using tiny wall hooks or even “stick tack”, you can adorn your walls or door frames with festive touches. Large ornaments may not fit your tree, but they can be a stunning addition to the top of kitchen cabinets or window sills. By using lengths of twine or yarn, you can string together ornaments to hang across wider entrances or even across the ceiling!
Get Crafty!
Can’t find the perfect wreath? Pick up some pine garland and simply shape it into a circle! Adding tiny ornaments, battery powered lights, and bows can make for a unique wreath that no store can duplicate. You can go as complex or simple as you like and likely spend less.
We all know how extra winter-wear accumulates over the years. Last years knit hats, unmatched mittens, and ugly scarves live in many closets, never to be seen again. These can be perfect decoration items! Use a thick piece of yarn to join mittens together and hang them on a wall. A well arranged hat and scarf can drape from shelves or a mantel for a super easy accent!
Paper chains are classic, easy, and a great way to get the kids involved! Simply take small long rectangle pieces of construction paper and form them into interlocked loops. You and your family can write messages to Santa, things you are thankful for, or what you are looking forward to in the new year on each piece.
Look to Nature
Nothing is more inviting than nature-inspired touches in a home. You can make stunning centerpieces or accents with old clear vases, decorative glasses, or empty bottles! Fill these with pine cones, small evergreen branches (rosemary can be an easy replacement), or faux Holly. Adding a bit of gold or silver spray glitter is a great way to add some glamor to these items.
Make it Personal
Whether you collect old Holiday cards or just can’t bear to part with a few of the more beautiful ones, you can incorporate these into home decor! String lights with small clips make this job super easy and stunning, while using wide ribbon with holes punched at various intervals to tie on cards or photos makes it far more personal. Even just setting them along a shelf or mantel can help bring back fond memories while being beautiful decorations.
